Qtopia

Press Release
Sydney

2025 will be Qtopia’s second season – its first began in February of this year. It is a testament to the work, determination and passion of its artistic director Carly Fisher and the Board of Qtopia that it has come out swinging for 2025.

Qtopia is located in the heart of Queer Sydney – just off Oxford Street in Forbes Sreet Darlinghurst. It occupies repurposed buildings, significantly, the old police building which was used in the past to incarcerate queer community and stifle their stories. It includes not only an intimate performance space in the Loading Dock Theatre but a museum, a cultural exhibition space and also The Substation, an adjacent small performance space.

Qtopia seeks to deliver all sorts of stories. Full-length plays, cabarets, stand-up comedy, musicals, new work, classics, festivals and even Education Programmes (in consultation with the Department of Education) in a space and environment which offers a haven and support for the Queer community.

There will be 4 world premieres, 2 Australian plays, 2 Festivals, 7 new Australian works and a classic. The programme shares not only the stories of the LGBTQIA+ community but inherent diversity which is part of the whole community. Pride Fest will occupy all of June and Qtopia will be the Queer Hub for the Sydney Fringe in September. During Mardi Gras, something will be on every night!

It is an ambitious, bold season for such a young organistation; unapologetic and proud in its mission. It is also a coup for Sydney, to have such a space dedicated to the Queer community.

If passion, heart and 2024 are anything to go by, it is going to be a stunning season.
