The Flamingo at Gluttony, Rymill Park
26 Feb – 10 Mar
Adelaide Fringe Festival

This may be the raunchiest bedtime story you’ve ever been told.

MARVELous The Show is a riotous romp through some fun popular songs (Flashdance, Wicked, Magic Mike etc.) as narrated by everyone’s favourite x-rated antihero, Deadpool.

Expect the unexpected – and I mean that. Scantily-clad Lady Thor and Iron Woman, Captain America and Bucky doing the iconic Dirty Dancing lift (also scantily-clad), and plenty of burlesque dancers in costumes hinting at characters we know and love.

You don’t really need to know any of the Marvel storylines or characters to watch this show. In fact, it’s probably better if you don’t. Leave your opinions about the movies outside the tent, and just embrace the ride.

Having Deadpool tell us the bedtime story is a great choice, but unfortunately a lot of his vocals are muffled and hard to hear, meaning you lose a lot of the jokes and wisecracks. Hilarious in theory, but tech issues got in the way of nailing the execution.

The aerial performances never seem to hit the heights you want them to, and I’m unsure if this is due to restrictions on the stage and set. Scaffolding covers most of the back of the stage, and the aerialists never seem to fully let go and show us the skills they clearly possess.

The cast of MARVELous The Show seem to be having a great time up there, and clearly have a lot of love for the MCU. Is it entertaining? Sure. Would I go see it again? Probably not. Maybe I’m in the minority here, but hey… I also kind of liked the Loki TV show, so I’m used to that!
