“Anna O’Byrne is one of the loveliest Australian actresses in musical theatre today. Her portrayal of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady was wonderful and now her (one woman) show Becoming Eliza is a tour de force. Don’t miss it! It will warm your heart.” Dame Julie Andrews
In this world premiere, Australia’s much-loved star soprano Anna O’Byrne shares her honest and personal story of stepping into one of the most iconic roles in musical theatre – Eliza Doolittle.
Handpicked by Dame Julie Andrews to play Eliza in the 60th Anniversary production of My Fair Lady, O’Byrne overcame her fears and insecurities working with her idol, Broadway’s original Eliza, to give the role of a lifetime her true voice and heart.
Becoming Eliza takes us on this heartfelt journey through song. This one-woman showcase leaps to life with your favourite hits from Andrews’ extensive repertoire including ‘Wouldn’t It Be Loverly’ and ‘My Favourite Things’, spanning Mary Poppins to The Sound of Music and Camelot.
While the leading ladies played Eliza decades apart, the original tale’s themes of gender, class and overcoming adversity still resonate today.
Be uplifted and touched in equal measure by Anna’s story, which like Eliza’s, is one of enduring female warmth and power.
