Just as Week 7 opens this Thursday, Short+Sweet Sydney week 8 – from Thurs 18 to Sunday 21 April features the final heats installment of great new short plays – in delicious 10 minute ‘bites’!
Artist and Transgender activist Skye Paez’ beautiful play Transcendent Love portrays a trans flight attendant leaping out of her comfort zone to roll the dice on love with a philandering environmentalist… Nita Wolf directs James Coetzee and the playwright in a story where a first date takes revealing, unexpected turns.
Changing, Engaging, Ageing by Maz Goldrick opens with a turning point between mother and daughter who have lived together for 30 years. Darell Hoffman directs Carolyn Neumann and Charlene O’Sullivan.
Bronwyn Elsmore’s About Felicia is a zany story about a visit to the vet… with a surprising animal companion and comedic chaos! Owen Gill directs Timothy Weston, Avril Vorsay and Benjamin Webb.
David O’Brien directs his own one-hander Bricks – starring long-time friend and stage buddy Robyn Queree.
The much anticipated launch of a controversial actor’s autobiography is thrown in to confusion when he’s a no-show! The winning play from Crash Test Drama 2023.
Smoke & Mirrors by Xenos Nemos opens on Harry who, despite a hangover must face both himself and the woman he loves in a dysfunctional relationship. Reena Akhtar directs Dominic Di Paolo, Laura Bray, Alex Baum and Hannah Lawson in a piece that plays with reflection and refraction!
Kenny is 35 years old and still believes in Santa. In fact it’s only August and he’s already getting excited. His parents are Coming to Town to try and break the news… Deniz Gursoy directs Keith Whalen’s hilarious play staring youth actors Jack Waters, Dean Whittaker and Erin Anikin.
Brave People by Allen Staples (USA) finds Ben & Nicole receiving grim news from a doctor’s. They embrace an uncertain future with love, humility and humour. Kay Paynter directs Jasmin Certoma and Kirk Hastings.
