The vibrant Melbourne Shakespeare Company triumphantly announces their return to Central Park with a refreshing twist on Shakespeare’s classic comedy Much Ado About Nothing. Transporting audiences to the swinging 60s, this innovative production infuses the timeless tale with iconic pop tunes from legends like Dusty Springfield, The Kinks, and Tom Jones.
Since their inception in 2016, Melbourne Shakespeare Company has captivated audiences with a unique blend of humour and accessibility, making Shakespeare appealing to all ages. The daring company has consistently shattered box office records, redefining the theatre landscape and solidifying their position as a leading independent theatre company in Australia.
Director Emma Austin, who is gearing up to direct her third production for the company, expressed her excitement: “Much Ado About Nothing has always been one of my favourite plays, and I cannot wait to bring it to life in the unique Melbourne Shakespeare style.”
The stellar cast features Australia’s finest Shakespearean actors Annabelle Tudor and John Vizcay-Wilson as the iconic lovers Beatrice and Benedick, respectively. Opera sensation Stephen Coutts takes on the role of Claudio, with Musical Theatre veteran Karlis Zaid as Leonato and Tess Parker making her professional debut as Hero.
Award winning designer Jodi Hope takes charge of the production’s design, promising to dazzle audiences with costumes and sets crafted entirely from recycled, reclaimed, and reused materials.
