Comedy Republic announces that Rhys Darby, Mark Watson, and Ting Lim will appear as special guests on Something Good, the weekly improv show that has rapidly become a favorite among Melbourne comedy fans. These festival performances are expected to fill fast as audiences jump at the chance to see major stars tackle spontaneous, audience-driven comedy.
Something Good continues to gain momentum by attracting high-profile special guests and showcasing a cast that has trained at The Second City, iO, and UCB, the renowned institutions that launched many of Saturday Night Live’s most celebrated stars such as Mike Myers, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Bill Hader and Kate McKinnon, reflecting the caliber of talent on Comedy Republic’s stage.
With the cast credits spanning Netflix, ABC and Channel 10, it’s no surprise that Something Good continues to gain momentum with comedy TV legends stepping up to perform alongside them. These collaborations highlight the show’s growing reputation as an essential stop on the festival calendar.
“There is a massive improv culture in the U.S. and we are passionate about bringing this style of comedy, that is the foundation for so many of our favorite comedic actors from film and television, to Australia”, says cast member Amy Ruffle. “Having guests such as Rhys Darby and Mark Watson join us is such a thrill and honour, and our audience loves seeing these comedic superstars like they’ve never seen them before, in totally unique and completely unpredictable scenarios.”
Unlike stand-up, which involves rehearsed sets, improvisational comedy is made up on the spot. Scenes, storylines, and characters spring to life spontaneously, guided by the rule of “Yes, and…”, where performers accept their partner’s ideas and build upon them. This collaborative, unscripted approach means no two shows are ever the same.
Rhys Darby is best known for his scene-stealing roles in Flight of the Conchords and Our Flag Means Death, as well as blockbuster hits like Jumanji. Mark Watson has delighted international audiences with his sharp wit on shows such as QI and Taskmaster, and is lauded for his inventive, interactive style. Ting Lim, a rising Australian star featured in Fisk and Thank God You’re Here, is celebrated for her fearless improvisation and quick-fire humor.
