Goosebumps from start to finish. That’s it. That’s my review.
Kidding. Well, it does tell it like it is.
But here’s the longer version. A trio of brilliant women vocalists perform songs made famous by men – think Bee Gees, Elton John, George Michael, Barry White, even AC/DC – but they add a level of sophistication, personality, and complexity to the harmonies. Proof that women can indeed do everything men can do – better, and with dance moves!
The show kicks off with a sultry version of That’s Life, made famous by Frank Sinatra. This is the introduction to each performer’s style: Jacinta Gulisano – throaty and fierce, Emma Mylott – strong and vibrant, and Tia Gigliotti – deep and soulful. Continuing to play with the male theme, the set is divided into three segments: the first is devoted to Romance, the second to The Players/The Charmers, and the third to The Good Guys. The show focus on music’s male giants and the style varies from rock to pop and R&B.
It’s an eclectic series of songs, and it’s particularly in the ballads where the power of the harmonies shine. This Is A Man’s World brought down the house. Each singer charged it with their own style, and this created magic. In this cabaret-style performance, the three performers’ personalities were on show through witty repartee and audience engagement.
Prepare for medleys spanning everything from Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Freedom, Thriller, Everybody, and Get On Up to Sexual Healing, Staying Alive, and Somebody To Love. By the end, the audience was on its feet, dancing, clapping, and singing.
This is a fabulous way to spend two hours, and the more we support superb homegrown talent whose abilities are at least on par with (if not better than) major artists, the better.
Get to the show.
