“Reckōning is a thoughtfully crafted exploration of indigenous people’s ability to find joy amid challenges and trauma. It is also a celebration of their strength, creativity, and resilience.“

Reckōning is a multi-art form production that tells the emotional story of Samuel Gaskin, a musician from New Zealand who now calls Australia home The show also explores the rich indigenous cultures of Australia and New Zealand, revealing the intricate connections between them.
Additionally, the production also tackles the long-lasting effects of racism and trauma that have affected generations through a mix of storytelling, original songs, and dance, It sheds light on historical injustices and invites viewers on a journey of learning and recognition, as well. Anger, grief, sadness, and joy run deep in the songs. This mix of emotions increased my understanding of racism and intergenerational trauma.
The production is visually stunning. The costumes are traditional and unique, the staging is meaningful, the colours are vibrant and engaging, the lighting and ambience are captivating, the song lyrics are thought-provoking, and the music is catchy.
Reckōning is a thoughtfully crafted exploration of indigenous people’s ability to find joy amid challenges and trauma. It is also a celebration of their strength, creativity, and resilience.
The show’s ability to merge art with important themes makes it a unique and impactful experience.
