Mystery Radio Theatre is the perfect Melbourne theatre experience – a brand new comedic murder mystery performed every month, in the style of old-timey radio plays. Actors in elegant evening dress create a theatre for your mind, complete with live sound effects and ad reads. There will be silly voices. There will be a special musical guest. And there will be plenty of gruesome fun and mystery.
After four sell-out seasons, Mystery Radio Theatre return to The Butterfly Club with five hilarious comedy whodunnits. These mysteries include a film noir satire about a hard-boiled detective who lives with his parents, a classic Agatha Christie-style manor house murder, an Enid Blyton-type plucky girl detective mystery, an Edgar Allen Poe-like gothic thriller and a Valentine’s Day special with stylish, martini sipping 1940’s sleuth, Vera Brady.
Every episode is a lovingly funny homage to a different genre of murder mystery, with actors huddling around a central microphone, ready to transport you back to the time of live, skin-of-yourteeth radio theatre.
